The current situation in the country related to the spreading COVID-19 infection resulted in an increased demand for personal protective equipment. The deficit with which medical centers around the world started to struggle forced the society to look for solutions to reduce the consumption of medical equipment. The limited availability of masks and gloves resulted in the emergence of myths about their long-term or repeated use. These myths generated many questions like this one about disinfecting gloves to use them again. Such doubts - due to compliance with all safety and hygiene standards, undoubtedly required a comment from specialists in this field.
Therefore, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has issued an official position on this issue. The statement clearly states that the use of alcohol-based solutions or other agents for disinfecting disposable medical gloves is not recommended. The gloves are made of various materials that are characterized by a different tolerance to the decontamination process.
